Brook is a forty-one year old, a New Yorker by birth.
He has received several important awards, and is widely represented in mu
seums throughout the country.
He has taught at the Art Students’ League,
and some years ago organized a school of painting at Croes River, New York, where he has a summer home.
Young Girl is simple and gracious in its appeal, artistically notable for fine
draftsmanhip and economy of means. This succinctness is characteristic of
Brook.
There is nothing overdone in his work, nothing funny, no striving after
effect. Young Girl is a memorable study, fresh and modern in its appeal, but
with its roots deep in the living soil of a great tradition.
