The General BY GEORGE GROSZ
THIS COMES FROM the pencil of the Grosz who is the “scourge of Junker,”
from the Grosz whom the militarists sent to the Western Front first-line trenches,
and prayed that a French bullet would do the rest.
The General is a magnificent and repellent figure-the type of Prussian officer
who will frown over the strategic puzzles of the next World War.
Here are all the stage properties of a General Staff officer,
including, on the wall, a profile portrait of Frederick the Great,
idol of the Prussian military clique.
